Hi all
Last week we had a bit of a power cut/brown out and immediately after the alarm went off, I reset using the pin and it made all of its happy noises as though it was unset but the external bellbox/sounder on the front of the house would not stop blaring!
We have a Veritas r8 system fitted with 5pirs and 3door contacts, one basic led keypad, one bellbox on each the front and rear of the property.

The only way I could get the front bellbox to stop sounding was to remove the 12v wire going to the control panel (internally of course)

If I pulled the internal fuse, the front box would go quiet but the rear box would start up.

Any advice on what to do?
I'm being given the complete run around by security companies, noone can come out or keep to the times they say - difficult with work for me to keep coming out.

The system is just over 12months old (fitted 20th Dec last year)

I am tech savvy so not shy of getting my multimeter out!

Please help :(

Was that installed by a company ?
No cables marked, cables look a mess
Cheap battery
Possible mains spike caused panel to throw wobbly
Faulty battery

It was installed by someone who seemed to know what they were doing...I now have doubts.

I will get the multimeter out tomorrow and test the battery, is it possible the panel/control board itself could be faulty?

I have no qualms in replacing the entire panel if that is what is necessary, in terms of the wiring, there's some marking/writing on the wires at the top where they feed into the box.

You have alarm cable run with 230v mains cables which will cause induced 230v onto the alarm cables.
Mains filter and 1313 filter required to stop induced voltage ?
Power surger will cause you problems on your system due to the way it has been installed ?
All the alarm cables need to be separated away from the mains cables then you will not get problems (poor installation)

Okay, I think first job tomorrow morning is to tidy up that wiring and once it's a sociable hour I'll attempt to recconect the outside Sounders wire (taped up with insulation tape) in that picture and button it all back up.

Going forward- need to replace that battery with a better one, ideally change keypad to one which will tell me faults

If you get your multimeter and set it to a/c
Put neg probe on earth terminal in panel and positive probe on + 12volts
That will tell you how much a/c voltage you have on your alarm cables?
Any thing above 2 volts a/c if BAD
my guess is that your panel does not like the a/c voltage spike when you have a power cut and panel throws a wobbly
Replacing control panel will not help
You need to separate the alarm cables from the mains cables, also depends on how cables are installed under the floor.
1313 filter will help but will not solve problem

Hi All!
thought I would update

Turns out the external bellbox was faulty, however I took this opportunity to update the alarm panel and keypad to a Premier Elite 24 system - all the wiring has been tidied up, zones labelled and fed through one side of the panel housing, ac power comes up through the bottom and straight in, chunky 7ah battery also.

The bellbox which i thought was a texecom odyssey 3e was in fact a cheapo clone! complete crap inside it - was replaced with a genuine texecom 3e

I am now pretty much conversant in texecom alarms so any questions please ask!

Have texecom ever fixed the piezo issue on their bellboxes? I want to try out the oddysey x but I'm a bit sceptical.

I'm not 100% sure but the place i bought the unit from assured me it was 'the latest revision with some of the kinks ironed out'

I'm actually impressed with how easy the alarm system was to install and program - not as difficult as anyone would have you make out.
