Hi guy I need to fit some auto closers to these doors (the chain type) I only have 4.5" to play with. Has anyone seen anything that would work?

Many thanks, Steve.

Thanks mate, I only have 4.5" to play with though. Unless I've had too much to drink?

Is this for an official fire door? Or do you want self-closing for some other reason?

Please stand back and photograph the whole door. Is it M&T solid timber, or some other material?

Hello John and thanks for your input. They are not fire doors. I've just moved into a house that's fully underfloor heated and individually thermostated. I'm looking to self close some of the doors to save me having to run round after the kids ;) full photo of one of the doors attached. Thanks.

OK, understand now about the depth, you must be the original Victor Meldrew! Most people detest them and either prop doors open or remove them when fitted, not to mention the thousands of hospital visits children attend every year with squashed fingers and permanent finger damage, if that ever happens to one of your kids your wife will have you remove them and never let you forget it. This is the exact reason why Building Control changed the regulations, to save the avoidable dangers. Madness.

not a fire door, so you could use rising butt hinges, which will self-close, though rather gently unless the wind gets behind them

You may need to plane the closing edge of the top of the door into a slight angle if it is tight fit, but it won't show much.

Luckily rising butts make it easy to lift the door off and re-hang it, which saves time and effort when easing the fit.

you can get short ones for jams that size but you can also reverse fit them if you walls are studwork

Ha, thanks guys! I've been called a lot of things but never Victor Meldrew! I've had these fitted on previous houses and never had an issue with them slamming on my non ninja like kids. I think they server a good purpose and make the house look tidy.

I hadn't considered using rising butt hinges. Thats a great (and cost effective) suggestion, thanks.

bobsuerita, do you happen to have a link to the items you are suggesting or a name so I can search. The house is of concrete construction but would be interested to see if these could work.

Cheers all,

Devs.

Sure thanks for that guys. Is it 1 per door or do each of the hinges need to be swapped out? Thanks, Devs.
