I just picked up a desk on gumtree which came without any of the required fixings, and I'm having trouble identiying the parts I need to get. At the joints, there are metal pins set into the face, which locate into holes drilled in the ends. The pins have cross-holes drilled, which align with an insert in the end piece. The inserts are threaded at a larger diameter than the cross-hole.

Google isn't helping me - all I can find are cam-lock parts which these don't appear to be. Can anyone suggest the part I need?

could it be barrel nuts?

Not barrel nuts - the cross hole in the pin is much smaller than the hole in the face insert. The face insert is threaded, the cross hole in the pin is not.
