Hello all,

I have a property which has suspended floors, there are approx 20 airbricks that which provide ventilation to the sub-floor.

I recently redecorated the property and laid laminate flooring down with fibre board insulation underneath.

Problem: The floors are just too cold! Even when heating is on they hardly ever warm to a comfortable level.

Question:
How can i better insulate the floor WITHOUT lifting the floorboards? (they are tongue/grooved hence the reason i dont want to get into removing them).

Could i:
Lift current laminate and fibre board, fill the gaps between the Floor boards with DraughtEX and then lay down some foil insulation? Then add the fibre and laminate back down? The extra layer of the foil will add 4mm to the overall floor which is OK.

Or, i was thinking of adding heated flooring?

Lifting the current laminate off is not a big deal as majority of the rooms are still empty.

No, that's not going to make any real difference.

No, that needs insulation under the floor else most of the heat will go downwards.

Do you know how much space there is beneath the floor? You may be able to lift the boards in just a couple of places to make access hatches and then crawl underneath.

The issue is with the cold draught passing up through the boards and sideskirts.... by covering/insulating these more surely it will make some kind of difference?

looking from the outside it appears that the airbricks are lined up to more or less just under the floorboards height....I am planning on lifting the laminate over the weekend so will check how much space is exactly under boards.

The draught can't get past your laminate though can it?

Point taken :p

I am from UK... most houses ive seen here dont have a sufficient enough of a crawl space.... will be interesting to see how much space i have over the weekend.

you say the floors are T&G, so should not be draughty anyway, except perhaps round the edges of the room under the skirting.
