Hi Guys, I've been sorting out various mould issues in my new home (successfully) and now it's the turn of my bathroom.
The previous owner of my house was a 'minger' and it's been a time consuming job all round but I've come to realise that he has also just painted over a pre-existing mould problem on the bathroom ceiling, making it look fine when I moved in but over time I saw these dark patches starting to show through the paint, becoming gradually more clear until I realised it was mould working its way through the paint layer. Yuk.
Anyway, previous mould has been sorted by using an anti-fungal treatment that is painted on then excess wiped off, followed by Zinser anti mould/stain primer (lethal stuff) then Zinser anti-mould White primer paint which can be tinted if required....these were only walls and no other type of surface. All these products were used correctly as per their instructions.
What I'm wondering is this: my bathroom ceiling is Artexed with that awful stiple effect, there's a layer of paint on top of lots of mould still trying to come through and to make things worse, my bathroom is an internal room with no windows, only an extractor fan (newly replaced by my electrician when I moved in) so what's the best plan of attack please...?
1)How best do I ensure this mould is properly treated before I progress to paint jobs? I can't be sanding the Artex off, I'm not physically up to this so I'd have to pay someone at that point if this was really required.....
2)Can I just do as before when I sorted out my walls? If not why not?
3)I'm a full time student now so money is an issue and I must spend very wisely, doing everything myself where possible...unless I'm not physically capable in which case if I'm paying someone who am I looking for, is it a painter and decorator and how do I find a good one who will know what they are doing...?
All advice gratefully recieved
