boiler pilot light

Nah. Our far northern friends call a chimney a "flume", as do some of my and 112s near neighbours;)

final question, if the fan is spinning intermittently and not at full speed would this prevent hot water and/or heating ? it spins but not going at full speed sounds like its missing like a car would.

just get an engineer, hopefully he might get a thanks for his services, not even one for some of the other chaps that has given advise here ,maybe a reason why some haven't been forthcoming ;) .

I appreciate every one's help and Yes i've been recommended one by a friend but for knowledge sake could a faulty fan prevent hot water as i'm sure the pump only works when central heating is initiated no ?

so if a fan is faulty and spinning to the right voltage the boiler would say no fan ain't at full capacity not giving any hot water etc.

with your boiler the pump will run for both demands for HW or CH not all do, and yes your fan not running correctly will stop the boiler from firing, nothing to do with voltage though

I see i thought only the pump would run for central heating to pump the water around and not for hotwater ok so 2 faults then one the fan which is goosed and getting stuck and 2 the pump.

will look into how much i can get a pump for or sack it off and get a new one.

But equally i don't understand how it would stop the pilot being lit through the reset sequence ? because at that point nothing is running neither fan or pump until a tap is turned on or heating ? how is this explained does it detect that the pump is seized when it's trying to light it ie when trying to light does it start to spin the pump while doing so at low speed and realise its stuck and then not light.

thanks very much.

when there is a demand be it HW or CH then the fan and pump are sent voltage , there is no sensing decice on your boiler to prove that the pump is running, however there is a sensing device to tell the boiler that the fan is running and at the correct speed etc, then once that device sends a signal to the PCB it will then initiate the gas valve to energise and the ignition sequence to begin, makes me wonder how you managed to light the burner with a blowtorch if the fan was not running as the gas valve should have remained closed

I see the fan is running but very creaky and sounds like its sticking so thats maybe why it lights with a torch but once running it runs really rough and not to the right speed, the pump is not running at all as there is no vibration to the touch so looks like they were right on that its toast hence why no hot water or heating as pump is seized, hence why the engineer physically turned it with pliers and it made a god awful creaking noise and then we hot water.

so looks like 2 faults fan and pump hopefully should sort it.

If the fan is running, and initiating the ignition sequence, there should also be repetitive sparking. This all sounds seriously odd. Maybe the pump and fan ARE working to one degree or another, and the immediate fault is the lead/electrode/earth or even PCB?

yes possibly but when i had it on, the fan was running although rough and not at the right speed but the pump did nothing no noise or vibration at all totally dead even when i ran water or heating nothing, so maybe the ignition is screwed hence why it will only light with a flame ie manually the fan has always been noisy and i already knew it was ready to go so the 2 faults could be pump and electrode or the ignition pcb.

Sulking, four pages of playing tennis over your boiler defects, not much activity on your part to thank guys who have taken time out to assist your I suspect imaginary heating engineer

What is the make of the pump on that boiler. If whoever is having to use pliers to turn the pump, surely it is on a fast track to a skip not to mention being able to light a burner with fan not running

I read from above that either your guy is a Mickey Mouse engineer using bob the builder tools or you are having a go at it yourself. If you are messing with the boiler and burner is lighting without the fan running, suggest put the cover back on and seek proffesional advice

too true DP, i bet he's got a pump & fan ordered already , or he's sulking :p
