I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I have upvc windows and wooden sills. There was a small crack between the window and sill so i caulked it, then re-painted the window sill and all looked fab. A month or so on, and i'm seeing the crack re-appear between the sill and window frame. So i re-caulked it, then touched up the paint on the sill and all was fine until about 6 weeks on when the same bloody crack re-appeared!

It is driving me mad. I've been told it's due to the plastic windows expanding and contracting and told there is nothing i can do, but it looks awful. If i re-caulk it will just re-appear and i can't keep painting the window sill every month, it's madness!

Is there any sort of wooden or plastic trim i can put over it to hide it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)

If you have a chat with one of your local window suppliers, they can give you a bit of beading that you can superglue onto the window to cover the crack, and it'll slide over the crack as it expands and contracts

Beading/trim will do the job as Doggit recommends but also a better quality caulk might do the trick.
Alot of the cheaper ones don't expand/contract well so always end up cracking.

I would recommend Wurth Acrylic Sealant. If noone locally sells it you can get a tube from ebay. Its good for internal and external use.

I've used caulk and sealant, and they both tend to crack eventually. The gap is invariably dirty, and you don't tend to get a good grip on both sides of it.

True you do need to clean both surfaces very well with solvent cleaner first.
When finishing windows to cills or plaster I clean well, Masking take a straight edge approx 3-4mm from the finished material, Caulk (using Wurth) and run my finger in both directions several times, Then paint it and remove the masking tape.
Leaves a perfectly straight painted edge that wont get dirty.

On white windows there is very rarely any cracking, On darker windows you do get a bit but generally nothing that can be fixed with another coat of paint.
