I'm planning on tiling our kitchen floor soon, and wondered if someone could recommend an electric tile cutter that's suitable for 60 x 60 floor tiles?

I was planning on using a manual tile cutter for straight cuts, and an electric cutter for doing other cuts, which I'll need a few odd cuts to cut the tiles to fit around the existing kitchen units etc.

Would I manage with a smaller tile cutter, or would the tiles be far too big?

I'm not a tiler but when I did 600x600 porcelain tiles in my bathroom and kitchen I bought myself a Rubi TS60 manual cutter for straight cuts and used my small angle grinder for anything else. Obviously need a diamond blade for the grinder.

Thanks.

I had considered using my grinder, however I'd be concerned with the mess and debris flying everywhere? does it?

Yes, it creates dust and a mess but as long as you're outside it's not an issue. Goggles and a facemask and no problem. Biggest cost was the Rubi and my wife as usual moaned about the cost... my response was it's that or get a tiler in for who knows how many times the cost. :D

Some good smaller wet saws can be fine - all depends on what you're dealing with - good planning and taking your time is the key. As well as the angle grinder I use my little old plasplugs for allsorts not using the guide or other workarounds for bigger tiles. Course you should be able to hire a larger bridge saw as well but hiring aint cheap!

check what tiles you are planning on cutting first, some porcelain tiles can't be cut with a break cutter. just use the grinder though for odd cuts

If you can get an assistant to help, then you can use the garden hose to lightly spray the cut when you use the angle grinder. I was using 10mm porcelain tiles recently, and the £40 Wickes 600 tile cutter did the job, but it may not work on thicker ones.

I used one of these https://www.bosch-do-it.com/gb/en/diy/tools/pks-16-multi-3165140651240-199896.jsp
Vacuum can be fitted meaning almost no dust and with a diamond blade cuts easily most tiles.
Picked one up in a sale for £65. Thought it might be a bit feeble but also found it could chase out brickwork .
Because the depth can be set you don't have too keep getting up to cut else where to avoid damage to floor.
