First you need to find out what is behind the existing fire.
It maybe that a chimney is there, so you may need to have that swept and a rain stop cowl on chimney terminal, a closure plate plus ventilation.
Then you would likely need to do some alteration to the electrical supply, which must comply to the wiring regulations and building regulations.

If there is no hole or the hole is undersized, then further work will be required and that would depend on the nature of the type of material that is forming the structure.

thanks, i do know before the the electric fire was there, it was a gas fire with a back boiler behind it which got removed when i got new boiler so i no sure what work has been done, so basically i need to get a professional to look at it before i just go ahead and do it .....

If you are inserting a fire in the hole, it is always wise to make sure the chimney is swept (if required). Then you want a closure or capping plate to prevent any debris from falling on to the new fire. Plus venting the chimney will prevent condensation, I would assume if work has been done to remove a back boiler, then some work has already been done to prevent some of the above issues.
