I now have a gravel driveway, not huge, but enough for the 2 bangers.
The gravel is about, maybe 4 inches deep, at it's deepest. But the cars sink lower than an England fans face after the Portugal match.

I hired a wacka plate when prepping the area after digging out the top soil.
Then I even wackered the gravel! But to no avail.

How can I fix this unsightly mess?

What size are the gravels, is it pea shingles size?

4" is too deep, may need something like MOT 1 type roadstone underneath the gravels to stop it sinking although you may get away with bigger hardcore materials.

Shingle alone is too loose, you can consolidate it with a mixture of finer materials, sand and a little clay to bind it. I have an idea the stuff is called "hoggin" but haven't had any for years.

thanks fellas.

What about a couple of ton of grit sand mixed with it?
Would that help?

It's not pea gravel, no. It's a mix of 10mm and 20mm. River gravel (or similar, can't remember the name)

My drive is deeper than 4 inches in places, and the cars don't sink, even the two tonne 7 series BMW, so I suspect it's the type of gravel you have.

I used south cerney, recommended by a builder friend, as not only does it look good, but doesn't tend to scatter like pea shingle.

I would imagine you ridea of adding sand and other assorted smaller particles would help to consolidate the lower layers and stop the cars sinking.

Good luck, and if it doesn't work, I can recommend south cerney for your application

You probably dont want to scrape it all off, but if you did then some terram or similar geotextile and stone would support it

have a look on
