Hi all,

I'm looking at adding some sound insulation in my kitchen ceiling. Basically 100mm acoustic mineral wool.

Any tips for holding in place before plasterboarding?

Also should I consider a vapour barrier?

Thanks

You could notch the joists and put small timber baton's across. You can get straps that go on the inside of each joist to hold it in place . If you have enough height it might be worth putting sound breaker bars in depending on what noise your trying to reduce

Don't notch the bottom of a joist, that's where all the tension is. You'll d end up with a bouncy floor in the room above and it'll sound like a drum when someone walks on it.

To hold the insulation up during plaster boarding if you can't take the upstairs floor up then just staple mesh netting or similar to the joists.

Moisture membrane- if there's nothing above the kitchen, if there's another room- no need.

Or just cut the mineral wool about 5-6cm oversized and stuff it in between joists- it will keep in places itself!
