Carpet Beetle/Woolly Bear Problem

Bit of an odd request but I wondered if anyone could give me any suggestions on this.

For the last week or so we've been finding woolly bears (carpet beetles) on one specific side of the bedroom and in the last day in the downstairs toilet.

So far we've put carpet beetle powder around the edges of the bedroom as well spraying the carpet around the windows with rentokoll insectrol and we thought we'd got rid of them as we went 24 hours after and there weren't any more signs of them.

Then today in the bedroom on the same side the buggers have started to appear again.

Other than continuing to put the powder and spray down we're not that sure what else we can do.

We need to locate the source of the damn things but that appears to be easier said than done.

Has anyone had any dealings with these things before?

lots and lots of frequent, thorough hoovering, preferably with an upright to shake the eggs out, especially under and behind furniture.

And under the edges of the carpet and the skirting board.

The places that are most difficult to hoover are the places that need it most.

Also check your drawers and cupboards for blanket, jumpers etc. and tip the bed over. Some older or expensive beds have wool padding on the tops and sides.

Look up the ingredients of the sprays. I once had an attack and found the same chemical was in an own-brand ant and crawling insect spray, so I used it round the edges of the room and under the skirting quite generously, then left the room closed up for several hours before returning and airing it. Mine was a liquid spray, not powder, that left traces on hard surfaces, I think in the same way that Dethlac does.

With a powder, you can brush it to and fro to work it into the carpet pile.

If you have wool felt underlay, see if it is infested and needs to be thrown out.

They might also be in felt pipe-lagging, perhaps under floors in an old house, or clothes stored in the loft.

ah, if it's this stuff, it seems to be a Permethrin insecticide that you've got.

Appreciate the replies. We found what we think was the source behind the bed. The room has been thoroughly powdered with the Rentokill stuff and sprayed as well.

Whilst the quantity appears to be dwindling we're still finding some around the house mainly upstairs and down the stairs.

The plan next is to put the powder down around the perimeter of every room in the house including up the stairs. We'll continue to hoover up around the edges thoroughly as well.

I burn powdered sulpher to get rid of bugs. You can buy it on ebay, and I fill the bottom end of an upturned coke can, and then set light to it. Keep the door and windows shut for about 8 hours, and then air the room.
