Need creative solution for lifting goods

Hello everyone,

Recently build an office space above the freezer. I need to move stuff up and down. Instead of using ladder, I was thinking about hanging out a roller and rope (picture attached) through the beam on the ceiling. So I can pull the rope and lift the goods and have a hook fixed on the ground to hold the weight while I unload it.

Can anyone suggest shopping list for what I need in order to make this work?

I have to roll a round steel around the beam so the rope can easily move around. is there something available in the market that I could simply buy rather than have it made?

If you buy two pulleys, loop the rope over the ceiling one, then round the floor (the goods end) and then attach the rope end to the ceiling again, you can lift twice the weight you could before, though you have to pull more rope

Lidl or aldi sell electric winches that take 125/250 kg depending on using second pulley

They were about £50 last time
 
Depends how heavy the items you are looking to lift. And then finding out if the beam you are looking to put weight on is suitable for that weight. But yes, a pulley is your best bet. More pulleys you add, easier it is to lift. 2 on roof and one on bottom would give you 3 pulleys and you would pull from the floor. Slightly overkill though if its light weight. A single pulley at the beam would be as good for lighter weights. Again depending on what you are intending to lift and the static loads, then decent climbing rope might work.
 
Also, for heavy loads, a block and tackle is a mechanical equivalent of a lot of pulleys geared together; you pull fast, it lifts slowly, but the weight can be considerable (tons, even)
 
This multiplying fctor of pulleys always seems like magic, even when you understand the maths! It FEELS like free energy
 
Yeah same as changing gear in a bike, you get free energy to go up hill, but then you're only half way up when you would be at the top:p

A manual winch, like that used for recovering boats onto the trailer will help immensely, especially with loads over about 20 Kg.

Either the pulley fixed to the roof girder, and the rope looped over the pulley, with the winch firmly fixed to the floor, or nearby supporting steelwork, load attached one end with pulley t'other end.
Or one end of rope fixed to roof, rope goes from roof to a second lower pulley, back up to roof mounted pulley then down to winch.
Load is attached to lower pulley.
But for max 50 Kg, the first option should be sufficient. A 'strop' and shackles can be used to mount the roof pulley.

It won't be heavy items. Maximum 50kg.
50kg is pretty heavy and could kill someone without any trouble at all. Make sure that a failure of any critical component can't cause an accident (e.g. use secondary retention for all those parts) Lifting is a high risk activity and if this is a work place don't forget to do a risk assessment (do one anyway tbh)
 
Yeah 50kg is heavy. If going bow shackles,eEnsure you fit the Bow shackles correctly. When fixing 3 points to a single shackle, the bolts go the other way round with the threaded bolt part at the bottom facing the ground, then the 2 points from the strap go at "bowed" parts. Any certifited shackle will show markings to state the maximum angle. Shackle is designed that way to take the load.

Also bare in mind although you are only lifting 50kg, the reality is that when you are pulling on the beam you exerting more force, as 50kg is only the static weight. The dynamic load is much more.

I work in entertainment industry and do some rigging, and the standard is to use 3.25T shackles and then spansets and Steel wire rope. Prob a bit overkill, but everything is 7:1 saftey ratio or more in our industry. I am used to putting things in the air alot!
