I've done bits and pieces of DIY and have no qualms about drilling. My problem is how to hang photos. The frames have some string attached.

I've looked at picture hook type things and they fix with a small brass nail. Whilst they're probably fine in wood or plasterboard, they look too fragile to penetrate a brick wall.

I'm happy to drill a hole in the brick wall and insert a rawlplug but what can i use then to hang the frames?

stealthwolf, good evening.

If you are happy with a drill with a masonry bit you could use a suitably sized Raw plug and a corresponding screw.

Trick is that the Screw head will in effect "hold" the string in place, no slippage,

If needed the angle of the drill should be slightly down wards to "Enhance" the ability of the Screw head to engage with the string.

Hope this simple reply assists, I have used it on several occasions to geed effect. a simple effective solution

Ken.

Actually hadn't thought of that. I was thinking of something with a flat hook but couldn't find anything suitable. Will give it a go.

stealthwolf, good evening again.

The use of a screw has the advantage that the screw head is just protruding from the wall, hence the suspended photo frame is held fairly flat against the wall.

Hope it works for you?

Ken.

Thanks @KenGMac
Drilled some holes into the brick wall. Sunk a brown rawlplug into each one. Drove in some screws and hung the photos.

It took longer to clean up the brick dust off the light grey carpet than to put up the photos.

3m 'command' strips are good for frames up to quite a heavy size. I have a few glazed photo frames using them, 2 over 600mm x 450mm. No mess on the wall either. Not cheap tho'.

Edit: they don't go skew iff when you brush by either.

I've used command strips on upvc window frames when putting up Xmas lights. Some of them would fall off despite cleaning the frame and following the instructions. I have no faith in them on wallpaper.

Drill an 8mm hole, hammer in a 9mm wooden dowel, cut wooden dowel flush with wall with a hand saw/multi-tool, then screw one of these into wooden dowel:

If an 8mm hole is too much then just downsize i.e. 5mm hole + 6mm wooden dowel.
