Quality of Plastering

Cheers roughcaster.

You'll notice I bottled it with the main ceiling and went for tape and joining. I've got my hall to do next so maybe I'll attempt the ceiling in there as it's a bit smaller. Going to wait until after summer when the weather's a bit cooler :D.

Must admit, I strangely enjoy it... not the cleaning and mixing mind you haha.

Update....kind of.....

All quiet on the western front....I was told he would get back to me on Monday.....but silence. I did say I was not in a rush....but.....who knows.

However, with regard to the plaster, a hairline crack has appeared in an area that had a crack before. Specifically at the end of the bay window cill travelling downwards (one side only thus far). So a common area for a crack and as I said and where there was one previous.

Is it common for a crack to re-appear so quickly, or should some scrim tape or something have been used on all previous cracks? How soon/likely should/could cracks reappear?

No expert but if there were visible cracks then it's always wise to scrim tape them. That's what the last plasterer in my old house did and also what I've done in my current house.

Saying that I did notice a very fine (less than 1mm) barely visible one in the dining room i did about 2 months ago. Maybe I missed it when prepping. But to be honest I think you always get the odd tiny hairline one. At least I've always found them in plastering I've had done after a while. Just make sure it doesn't sound hollow when tapping it/running finger nails over it.

Update!

The plastering is coming back in a few days to re-do the bay and bay reveal/frame as I said. He also mentioned giving the walls a light sand if I wanted. From what others have said on here, this may be a bad idea. Thoughts on that?

Second, before they come back I'd thought I should upload some pictures of the cracks that have appeared. These should be covered again as part of the re-skim. Thoughts on what should e done to prevent reoccurrence?View media item 99945
So the cracks are at the end of the bay cill on each side going vertically:

Many thanks as always....

Any thoughts on the cracks, they should be coming back this week to re-do the bay. Is there anything that should/could be reccomended to stop them re-appearing?
