Hi,

Hoping you can help please!

I have a Hudson Reed shower valve in my bathroom. It seems to be an older fashioned 3007 unit, a twin tec divertor, as far as I can make out.

Last week it got hotter and hotter, then upon turning the temp control further the shaft started to push outwards. So time for a new thermostatic cartridge then I guess!

The problem is it won't unscrew. I have removed the grub screw from the underside, and tried a 17mm spanner on the flats, as well as a pipe wrench and a sillson wrench on the larger splined section. It will not budge. The flats are deforming and the splines are stripping off.

There is a pic of my unit below, I believe the cartridge is likely to be this one. https://www.divapor.com/spares/show...rmostatic-cartridge-sa30049-ultra-sa30049.php

Any advice or help on removal please? The wife is being patient, but only for so long...

Many thanks

Jamie

Try heating the body up with boiler water or a blow lamp if your careful to break the seal between the cartridge and the body.

As what ^ picasso mentioned, you need some heat to break the seal. So get it hot via the shower itself or a flame, apply your spanner and give it a very slight turn in the opposite direction this helps to break the seal then unscrew the other way,
