Hi. We have had planning permission granted for extensions side and rear of our house, the side extension of 10m X 2m has been completed for 4 years. We now have the money to complete the rear extension which is L shaped, 2.75m X 4.8m X 4m.
We have decided that we would like to amend this to 4.1m X 4.8m X 4m but are confused as to what is the quickest way of doing this. I understand that I will need to get Planning involved but the two ways of doing this is confusing. Do I need to do a prior approval or a material amendment? The change is basically to come into our rear garden the extra distance, nothing else is changing. Our neighbours are not concerned about the changes as the two houses that are effected will not be able to see it as their sheds/summerhouses are in the way. What route should we follow please, it needs to be the quickest as the builder is chomping at the bit.
Thanks for all who read and take time to reply.

If the rear extension goes beyond the side of the house, or makes contact with the recent side extension, the Prior Notification system does not apply, and the revised plan would need normal planning permission.
A rough sketch of your layout would help get definitive answers.

Thanks. The side extension is opposite side of house to rear extension. The rear extension has existing permission but not big enough now. Hence going out further into garden. I'll sort out rough sketch tomorrow as I'm in the cinema at the moment.
Thank you

The OP is a bit confusing as to what is there and is not and what permissions have been enacted or applied for but not built, but by the sound of it, its a new extension, so you need the homeonwer application.

BTW, was the film boring?

You have 2 options.
1. Prior Approval of a Proposed Larger Home Extension application if the extension is within the size limits etc.
2. New Householder planning application.

(1) would probably be quicker but still a long delay. The only way you could treat it as an amendment is if it could be classed as "non-material" and I don't think you'd get away with that as it is quite a bit bigger than the original.
