Can I get air locks from this pipe work (magnetic filter)?

Hi,

After understanding how effective a magnetic filter is, I'm planning to have one installed. The heating is a pressured system.

One plumber mentioned he'd need to think carefully on how to re-position the pipe work as I could end up with air in the pipe and then would need vents.

I can only assume he meant around the bends of the pipe.

I have attached a picture on how I think the pipe work will be re-positioned.

As anybody come across trapped air which is caused by different bends in the pipe or see how trapped air would affect this?

Thanks,
John.

Do you really need a filter ?

If you do then that alteration will not cause an air lock on your sealed system, some filters have a air vent nipple so it can be vented with a radiator air vent key. Have a look at the Magnaclean.

We have a microbore system, I would like to have a filter installed as it helps maintain the system and its effectiveness.

I was looking at the TF1 Omega as it has a 25 year warranty on parts and shell. I have heard the Magnaclean can sometimes leak, which is why I'm going for the Omega.

Are there any other options for the filter, for example on the inject of pump?

Has he actually fitted a magnetic filter before if not dont let him near your old boiler he could do more damage than good.

Its a straight forward job, take about half an hour and expect to pay around £200 :!:

:cautious: 25 year warranty

Assuming that there are radiators at a higher level than the boiler / filter any air in the system caused by installing the filter should vent through the air vent on the filter and radiator air vents.
Could possibly be an issue if there are no radiators or vent points higher than the boiler, e.g. If all rads are below boiler level (feed by drops from ceiling void).
I have used Magnaclean Twin Tec (magnet and gauze filter to catch non magnetic bits) in the past and never had any problems with leaks.

I have most of my rads above the boiler, I also have an auto air vent in the airing cupboard which is at the highest point apart from the vessels.

Have you seen the new (released this year) TF1 Omega filter?

I'm sure Fernox would have researched the Magnaclean well, before releasing this new filter and would hope performs better.
