About time

Most people were hoping that the post linked to Amazon and other big multi-nationals finally owning up to paying their fair share in tax.
Otherwise not really good news is it.

The problem is that as house prices were pumped higher through bank lending and housing companies limiting building, and land banking. The price of land has risen and subsequently the value of retail premises has risen off the back off that. Ie cost push inflation which has lead to many independents slowly closing shop as they can't pay the rising rents and rates.

On top of this successive governments have made it easier to shift cost bases and the use of Transfer pricing etc and other legal means to avoid paying taxes in the locality where most of the income is derived.

Amazon has just taken advantage of a situation created by successive governments - its free market economics which the RWR are so fond of defending so why are they decrying Amazon being a shining example of the very thing they claim to support.
