I have a Triton bar valve with a slow leak from the head.

I assume its a faulty thermostatic valve that needs replacing.

I have done this before and I think you need the number of the valve before you know what to order.

Is there any way of finding this out prior to dis-assembly? or am I looking at replacing the whole bar valve?

Leak from the shower head you mean? You either need a new cartridge from triton or you may have a rubber washer that you can replace.

You have 2 valves, the left hand on/off valve and the right hand thermostatic valve. If there's a drip it'll be the left hand on/off valve that needs replaced. It may just be a 1/4 turn ceramic valve but it'll need to be isolated and taken out before you'll know what's needed.

No, I haven't contacted Triton. I did go into the local shower hardware store. They advised me to just replace the whole bar value as they are cheaper than the ceramic valve.

I now agree it's more than likely the 1/4 turn on/off valve. So is that available from the plumb center?

Isolate the shower, take the valve out, take it to the plumb centre and they will tell you if they have a suitable replacement.

If it's just a standard 1/4 turn 1/2" ceramic valve, which a lot of them are, then cheaper to just replace the valve.

Ok, so I got a 1/4 turn, 1/2 inch valve and replaced the one in the bar valve, no more drip.

Case closed.

Thank you

Thanks for reporting back what happened next.
