Hi all.

Im building a porch which is basically a lean to type veranda thing.

Ive built the basic frame and attached a 6x2 to the wall and then cut a rafter down onto the frame at around 40' pitch. at the bottom I've cut in with a birds mouth.

At the top I've basically cut the rafter at the required handle and offered it up to the timber. I was going to run timber lock screw though the top into the plate but was wondering if there was a better way.

I don't have the height from windows above to lower the wall plate and birds month at the top before you ask!

Thanks

i put a timberlock through the top but thought maybe some side brackets would be better . Didn't want to spend a fortune on angled joist hangers at £10 a pop x 12

Interested in your plan for flashing, by the time you get the roof covering on there doesnt look a lot of room ?

I've got about 5" above wall plate. Might have to lead around the windows a bit?

I was thinking exactly the same thing. If it was me, I'd be basing the height of the whole affair off of where I could mortar in my flashing below that window, and if that resulted in a slope that was too shallow for the tiles, find some different tiles.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but I'd be interested to know how the pros handle this when there's render. Cut a slot in the render with an angle grinder? Find the mortar joint between the bricks below? Or just wing it and put some gunk in there like I've seen some conservatory fitters do (and then have problems later :)).
