Hi guys, hope this is the right place.

Since we moved in to this house 2 years ago, none of the TRVs on the rads have worked. That’s 7 radiators.

We had a guy in about this time last year and he said the best thing to do would be to install a thermostat, however there are some rooms that’s we want off (the wife hates the bedroom one on but we need the baby’s room on for example).

Is it possible that all the TRVs failed?

I have had a look at them and none of them seem stuck, the pin pops back up after pushing it down and I’ve even WD-40’d them for good measure.

Any advice?

They should turn the radiator off when set to zero no? All the radiators are on full time and there’s no adjustment in temp when you turn them down.

Only way to adjust the temp is to do it at the boiler.

Are the ring nuts tightened down properly. It's also possible that the heads aren't original, and they've put new heads on, but left the old valve on. Check they are tightened down properly, and if the still don't shut off, try putting a penny inside, and then see if they work.

Since they push down on pins to open then removing the heads should turn them off. Ups thinking about it, think may be other way around, when I fitted eTRV heads I used a penny as not fully turning off, latter had to remove it as it fell off the pin and jammed. link to official spacers

You can get eTRV heads £26.49 which are reasonably universal, but I looked for a new head on Screwfix site £8.99 and complete valve £5.79 I am not a plumber but I would think there must be a reason why some valves and heads are more expensive than others. I fitted the cheap valve and it works, but I wanted a valve with a large operating range, most want the reverse.

FFS, will you stop giving advice on this forum? You really are a menace.
I corrected my error before you posted, and admitted I had made an error so rather a pointless post when already pointed out by myself. I did give links to spacers, and I note you have not bothered to answer the question anyway. So a double pointless post.

I wouldn't be questioning my level of assistance on this forum dude ;)....

You think crap advise is better than no advice?

Besides.... I'm waiting for the op to come back with the information requested.

I replied in the 3rd post. Do you need more?

I was thinking of Doggits post

Sorry, yes, everything is as tight as I can tighten them. I've tried a penny, but the valve won't fit on with a penny in place.

Is it looking like I just need to replace all the valves - should I give those spacers a go?

Could it be anything else? I just find it odd that they've gone on all 7 radiators.

The liquid /wax in the heads have a finite life. It they're older than 7 years or so then they could well all be dead.

Would it be a matter of just replacing the head or would I have to some actual plumbing?
