This is a really dumb question so apologies in advance. If I have the hot water turned on on my boiler (pictured), but don't actually turn the hot water Taps on, will it eat into my gas? The reason I ask is because I'm getting one of them smart plugs so I can turn my boiler on remotely or anywhere in the house but would like both the central heating and hot water on at the same time.

Why would you put a boiler on a Smart plug?

Your boiler has preheat mode, which if turned on will fire the burner occasionally so you get hot water quicker.

I suggest you read the manual before spunking money on pointless gadgets.

The plug from my boiler goes into the wall. I plug this into the wifi plug meaning it can be switched on or off. If I'm in work I can turn the heating on. Not really pointless.

You don't need to turn the power to the boiler on and off to control the heating

Boiler needs a constant power supply. To turn the heating on and off remotely requires a external control liked to the boiler electrically. If you are not sure what you are doing, I would recommend you employ someone familiar with heating electrics.

Your boiler is made using pizz poor electronics, so bonkers control method notwithstanding, the constant powering on and off will kill the PCB.

Why don't you just set the timer on the front of the boiler to turn the heating on and off at the desired times?

You don't need a smart plug, your thinking of a internet enabled thermostat/programmers e.g. Hive, nest etc. You don't need to control the hot water whilst your away from home as you have a combi boiler (the hot water is instant from when you run a hot tap) it would just be the heating you could control from the internet enabled controls. Hope that clears it up mate
