Hi All,

I'm looking to raise our garage floor to the same level as the house floor or just below it. there is about a 6 inch difference at the minute. You step from the kitchen into the garage currently

We need to be able to run some water pipes (white plastic type) underneath it and possibly some wiring. There are some gas pipes going round the wall edge of one corner.

Current floor is unpainted concrete and brick walls.

What would be the best way to do this with a nice level finish? Likely to have a vinyl floor covering in the end.

Thanks in advance for the help

Rob

What are you going to use the garage for once the floor in?
Knowing that will help give useful suggestions.

@wgt52 initially, it will just be a floor to allow me to get rid of the excessive piping and shelf(that the pip runs across) then it will be converted into a utility room :) thanks

OK - first thing is to place a dmp proof layer Synthaproof or similar which you paint on - 2 generous coats. That goes up the wall to the top of the Blue Bricks or above the damp proof membrane in the walls.

Once that is dry flooring joists to the height you desire less 22mm (to allow for the thickness of the floorring). Use folding wedges (2 wedges set tapers together to adjust the height) under the joists. Use a floor board along each end to keep the joists upright.
Once the floor joists are level use a firm morter mix to support the joists - under and up the sides.
Once that is dry you can floor board it. Leave the wedges in place.
Leave a small gap at the edges - say a 1/4''. That gap will be covered up with the skirting board (or the plasterboard whenthe walls are finishd.
