Hey guys,

Looks like no local installer is interested in touching the alarm system i've inherited (keep trying to upsell a new installation) so I'm wondering if theres a DIY option.

Basically the keypad came up with Unit low battery which as I beleive (very much a novice in this area) means the battery on the PCB is dying. It won't let me arm the system.

I've also managed to accidentally set the alarm off and press a load of keys whilst tinkering so the "excessive keys" error is now flagged instead.

Am I safe to open up the box containing the PCB or is it tamper proof?

Alternatively, does anyone know anyone in the west midlands/warwickshire area who might be able to help?

Does the display show low batt
Your battery could be faulty
You will need a 12volt 7.0ah battery

Originally it was Unit Low Batt, now its Keys Excessive (due to my ham fists).

Are the control units tamper proof or can I safely unscrew and open?

Alarm will sound on internal speakers and keypads when you open the panel, or if someone tries to jemmy it off the wall. Enter in your code to silence the alarm.

Aha, thats what I did, seeing if the keypad would "open". It didnt. It went off. Thats when I mashed the keys a bit before silencing it so I'll need to so a soft reset somehow to clear the code.

It's not the keypad that you need to open it's the control box.

Got the cover off and no tamper....can see a big old battery which costs about 15 quid.

Any precautions for disconnecting it?

Not really. That no tamper thing surprises me. Was there a switch on the inside top of the panel? That battery is 3 years overdue for replacement anyway.

Pretty much what I thought.

With regards to clearing error codes...is there a way without resetting the system?

That tamper switch that's on the end of the white cable ( not ) now in a connector block ....lol

Ye it's not connected to anything!

I've got all the manuals here with writing on them...but no engineers code :(

Replace battery enter user code , it should clear , worst case power down and re power up , enter code , twice , reset time and date ....

Yes yes that is a bit of an issue. Hell, I own a similar panel with a similar board in it. Should have seen that right away! Let's hope your panel is in a place that is hard for a burglar to get to!

With regards to what Sparky said, follow his instructions. That's basically what you need to do. Just make sure that keypad you opened is properly closed or you'll have some more fun with clearing that issue!
