Vaillant ectotec Cycling Problem

Being that the OP hasent made a post in over 2 years I doubt you will find out.

Always gets me when folk complain about heat only boilers, running 28kw boiler through a 4kw cylinder coil. I've been called to many of these over the years, and very few of them will have correctly sized pipes/pumps/rads/cylinder coils. Very often haveing a far lower flow rate through the boiler than what is stated in the installation instructions as the minimum flow rate.

Yes a 4kw coil on this boiler will cycle like crazy after the first burn it will chuck 20kw at it for 50 seconds no chance of modulating down after the first burn.

Silly software on a Glowworm product? (HXi in disguise). Well knock me down with a feather ;) (I'm looking at you, Flexicom F22).

I've just bought a house with a 428 and with this problem which was very puzzling as it seems the last owner just ignored it and the service technicians also.
After much reading here and elsewhere and trying to understand the problem even with a Vaillant qualified gas technician, and trial and error, I tried derating it with d.0 to 15kW and that seems to have worked at last.

A lot has happened since this post was started
Alec no longer comes calling, Agile has gone missing, gaswizzard has been reincarnated a few times and no longer comes visiting, but the series 4 still plays up:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Despite all the discussion, I can't see any real solutions mentioned.
In fact my derating has not worked fully but has helped a bit. There is still a problem with hot water only or with low heating load.
My boiler was installed early 2014 and is still under guarantee till 2019, but not sure if this will help if Valliant don't see a problem or error code.

It's the installers you need as vaillant can only do so much

It's not a fault that's why. Just the way the boiler works. Appropriately sizing the output of the boiler is the best you can do.

The installers are no use to me, and must have based their system on Vaillant's information which was surely faulty.

I find it hard to believe the boiler is supposed to work this way, cutting out so quickly after starting a cycle and not modulating down. Other boliers don't do this.

They improved it in the later models. They learned from their mistakes.

So not working correctly is normal??
And everything other people have said is down to bad installations???
