Scantronic 9448+ Issue

Hello,

Looking for some help.
I came home recently to find my Scantronic alarm completely dead i.e no lights, no tones when touching keypad. I checked all the internal fuses and they are OK. Figured it was the battery so replaced that and sure enough it all came back to life. Set the alarm in the morning, came home from work and the panel is dead again. Any ideas?

Battery is brand new so assuming its not an issue.
All internal fuses appear OK.
Replaced 3A fuse to mains, just in case.

Faulty transformer or transformer fuse on the pcb F3 as per diagram , this normally blows when the battery goes faulty and the transformer gets hot ...ps you may have to replace battery again if it's run too low , remove battery if replacing fuse F3 as it may take out the fuse ...

Seems to have done the trick. Tamper light came on at first and would not reset, but was OK after giving the internal tamper switch a little attention. Thank you very much

Hi, I wonder if you could help..i have the same alarm, but it's making this hideous humming noise of a night, and as the main box is in my fitted wardrobe, in my bedroom, it's really disturbing my sleep. Do you think it's a transformer / battery thing, or a new unit? Many thanks in advance x

If the battery hasn't been changed in a few years, then yes, it will need replacing.

Is the control panel hot or warmer than 30 degrees? When some batteries are at the end of their life, they will load the power supply and heat up. If it's hot, then get the battery replaced asap. A power supply under max load will hum/vibrate more.

Thanks so much for your reply. So should I just replace the battery?, or would it be better to replace the transformer too? I need to order the bits today, as its getting much worse. Many thanks again for your help x

Order new battery and see if that cures the transformer hum. The old battery might be drawing a fair bit of juice if it's getting to the end of its life.

Thanks! And sorry for the million questions, I'm not sure whether to order a 2.1ah or a 2.3ah battery- there is conflicting advice online x thank you x

Go for 2.1Ah. I went with a 2.2Ah for mine. As long as the size is the same, you could be able to get a 2.3Ah battery.
