Hi have a 2 yr old Worcester Greenstar 30i Combi. HE is working ok but CH not working. Thermostat is ok + calling for heating (just changed the batteries), but CH won't come on via timer or manual switch either. Have the thermostat set at 30deg. I've tried reset of boiler + switching off via spur also. All TRV's are new + working fine also.

It has been coming on occasionally every day but then goes off itself for moat of the day. Only change recently was I refilled the boiler as pressure dropped a little since original installation Jan 2016.

Any ideas most appreciated?

Update for those with similar issues.....

The syphon trap was full of sludge and was then emptied out. Plumber says that, as condensing waste is dropping internally into washing machine waste, it has blocked with the sludge. Recommends condensing waste is diverted externally via 22mm pipe fixed to falls into a gulley. This has been done so I'll lag it externally to prevent freezing etc.

All connected up now, new waste + syphon cleaned.....but CH still not working. Plumber now says that syphon is damaged with all the sludge that was originally in there.

Saying I now need a new syphon trap.

Does this sound correct to anybody?

 . If problem was the trap the hw wouldn't work either and it's filled up with sludge mmmmm , if it was the trap is the least of your worries :) , do your self a favour and get another gas engineer if that's all he's come up with ;)

If he's a plumber he shouldn't be working on your boiler's condensate anyway. As everyone has said, you need a proper GSR engineer in to diagnose. Sludge from a washing machine wouldn't get up to the boiler's condensate trap and even if it did it would be hard pushed to damage it.

If the condensate is now passing out through a wall and then run externally then the pipe size should also be increased.

Interesting replies.......thanks to all

No error codes at all, never has been. Just HW working 100% but no CH

When I say Plumber, I meant a Gas Safe guy (I'm just now checking the register also!)

The new condensate external pipe is running approx 1.5m in length, is still a 22mm & I'll lag it fully as I understand that helps. All installed to falls to a rainwater gulley outside.

The syphon trap was fully cleaned out but he said something along the lines of 'the pin operation may have been messed up with all the sludge that was in the syphon before it was cleaned out'? There was a fair bit of sludge in it when the syphon was pulled out & cleaned initially. He feels that there maybe is some residue left in I'm assuming around that pin area? I'm getting circa £17 quotes for new a syphon.

The sludge hasn't gone up from the washing machine, it's come from the boiler into the syphon. But after a session on google it seems many people have been having issues with condensing pipes dropping internally into a washing machine waste, therefore got it done externally.

why check the register just get another engineer ;) if all he's got is a trap ring him and find out ;)

if it was a condensate problem you wouldnt have HW get someone that knows what they are doing

Finally got hold of a mate who's an Engineer but lives miles away, he reckons the diverter valve motor is a common issue on these boilers. Agrees that it's not the condensating pipe or Siphon.

Will get another Engineer out & see what he says.

Anybody come across issues with the diverter valve motor on the Greenstar's? Does make more sense than the Siphon I guess.
