Hi Everyone,

I need to relocate a mains water pipe/stopcock into a 1980s garage extension which has a solid concrete floor. I'm not quite sure how deep yet.

The hole is going to need a diameter of around 130mm.

I have an SDS drill but the diamond core drillbits don't look like they'll be long enough.

What would you use?

Not even with a longer drive shaft, breaking out the core well before it bottoms out in the bit? the main problem will be the bit binding as most dust cant escape,I keep it clear with an air gun but a vac may help

I'm also doing this this weekend. Assumed I could get through using SDS drill mixing up drilling and chiselling until I got through to earth.

Not an SDS drill. Look at hiring a proper diamond core drill set.

edit: if you have the patience, you can try stitch drilling and knocking a hollow out of it but you'll need a lot of time and effort.

Presumably this will be in a corner or edge, so could be knocked out quite easily, quicker and more efficiently with a hammer and chisel, than messing with a drill.

Why not expose the main in soft dig and extend from there, and abandon the pipe under the concrete.
