I think he needs to make his mind up ! I had a Mk3 Escort years ago, cable clutch, and that was a pig to get into 1st gear. Horrible car

Update! Apologise if i have been giving confusing information the only excuse is oh is the main driver &
Am dependent on her for quality & near precision information fast forwad the problem is only related to initial
Start up & first gear only & when the car is cold once it warms up there is no problem i dont know if there
Is a remedy since winter is on door step perhaps while she defrosts the glass engin will warm up!
Thanking all for input
Regards

It will either be clutch drag as discussed or wear on the 1st gear synchromesh. If you have to push the clutch pedal right to the floor to get it to disengage its likely the clutch, if not it will be wear on the gearbox or possibly the wrong oil.

Does the lady of the house tend to engage first gear when the car is going too fast, i.e anything more than a slow walking pace?
John :)

No ! John she does not teacher by profession! Also long driving experience! Me retired!

I've always thought that Kia / Hyundai have good gear selection so I'd have to suspect the clutch.
The transmission oil doesn't have a change interval although it would have been replaced at the first clutch change. Did the problems start then?
John :)

Just to let you know the problem is recent & not historic (so i dont think it has anything to do with first clutch change)

It looks like it's time to have the operation of the clutch master and slave cylinders checked now.....does the car crunch gears when engaging reverse?
John :)

Bleed the clutch and change the gearbox oil. Then report back. Have you tried this car yourself?

Dave spot on! My 20 year old final year uni going lad confirmed that & told me she will need an auto as also
Your advise! Cant teach old dog new tricks!

I hate it when people hold their cars on the clutch for ages at lights. All that heat build-up can't be good for a DMF.

Autos are all right until the manual driver goes for the clutch !!! ( I was a passenger ) better to just save up for regular clutches.;)
