I've been on a evening plastering course a year ago and taken to internal plastering quite well.
I'm now looking to replace the render on my outside bay window (it's falling apart).
I'm struggling to find consistent advice on what to do and can't find my notes from my plastering course (we had some training on external render).
Some specific questions:

Edit - Just read the Wiki. Now know I need to use washed plastering sand.

Some specific questions:
- I'm going to replace the expanded metal lathing, should I use galvanised or stainless?
- Presumably I need a scratch coat and a top coat; what quantities should I use for each?
- Do I need Portland cement and sand, or should I be using lime also?
- What is the minimum amount of time I can leave the scratch coat before applying the top coat?
- Whats a good way to get a clean edge at the sides where it joins to bare brick?
- I'm planning to finish with a wooden float, sound ok?
- Amount of time to wait before painting?
