Leaks from the boiler (ecotec plus 831 - Vaillant)

Dear All, I am having some issues with my boiler (ecotec plus 831 - Vaillant).
My boiler occasionally leaks some water. I have attached the picture and suspect this is coming from (1). (2) is overflow pipe which goes outside the house.

I haven't seen water coming out myself but anything beneath (1) was wet last night. So, I removed the stuff from cupboard and but some kitchen towels there. Boiler was ok all night no leaks till 0630. When I was leaving for office, around 0700 I noticed water on the floor again but unfortunately there is no dripping I can see neither any residual near (1).

Am i right to think its coming from (1). If that is the case then is it a problem and should I be able to fix it.

Your item 1 is a drain off valve. There will be a square spindle behind the spigot you can push a hosepipe onto. Try tightening this slightly with a spanner.

You could hang a jam jar or similar from a string under the valve, and see if water collects in it over a period of time.

Your item 2 is not an overflow, it is the condensate pipe.

The copper pipe to the right of 2 is the outlet pipe from the pressure relief valve. If the boiler gets over-pressured the valve in the boiler opens and lets water out through this pipe.

The "occasional" nature of the leak suggests condensate.

Wrap a bit of blue paper round 2.

Dear All, thanks for replies. I have put a plastic jar beneath it now but I think due to pressure sometimes a bit of water still leaks out the basket. I think the water preessure its too much and some drops still make it to concrete floor.

Secondly, I could not find any spindle to turn this off. I have now attached both pictures please let me know how to turn off this dripping please.

you need to locate the source of the leak.
is the white pipe tray wet (cover underneath the boiler covering the pipes)? or show signs of having been wet.

the leak could be coming from higher up, just so happens it collects on the floor below pipe no.1.

where is your boiler located? in a cold cellar, it has been getting cold these last few nights, could be a factor that others might be able to advise on.

also does it seem that the leak appears after / during having had the hot tap running?

In your second photograph there is a brass square at the very bottom of the drain off valve. This is the spindle, and you could try tightening it with a spanner, grips, or at worst, a pair of pliers. If you look up at it it will turn clockwise to tighten.
