hi folks ive not long moved into my house it has an old fuse type cu with only one blue fuse for sockets which is supplying the whole house is this normal ? i live in a 3 bed semi and theres 3 cables coming from the blue fuse any info appreciated

would it be possible just to renew the consumer unit to one with a breaker system rather than fuses as ive just decorated the whole place and renewing all the cables would totally destroy me lol,the cables all look pretty decent and the kitchen has been fully rewired

hate to say this, but you really ought to have thought about the wiring before you decorated. A 20A fuse with 3 wires coming out of it is a bit of a worry, especially when, as you say, it powers all the sockets. I would get it checked by an electrician as a priority. Has the fuse been blowing?
Blue is 15amp.
As you have three cables, it could very easily be a ring with a spur - no problem there. The fuse may be incorrectly fitted.
Check the ends for continuity to establish if you have a ring or not.
A 15amp semi-enclosed fuse would probably take 30amps for a very sustained period anyway!

dad rewired our house many years ago but didn't change the fusebox or any of the fuse ratings (it was later changed when we had an extention built) and so we had all our rings on 15A rewirables for years (the box had 2 5A fuseways which we used for lighting and 4 15A ones which we used for the 3 rings and the immersion).
anyway bottom line: they hardly ever blew. I think the kitchen blew about 3 times in a decade when the timing between washing machine and dishwasher was particularlly unlucky and the others never blew.
