How important are sink hole filters?

Go these filter things in my kitchen sink and bath. In my old place when I didn't have one of these the shower plug hole got blocked with hairs I think and I had to pour this strong unblocking stuff down there.

In the kitchen how important is it to stop food going down there?

As long as whatever goes down the hole goes round the u bend I can’t see that there will be a problem. No different to a waste disposal unit, surely?

Only problem I can see is if your sink flows into an open drain - the food may lay in the open and stink especially if it gets blocked by leaves or other debris.

Lol. Would these be the spiders that can swim round water-filled U bends? Any spiders that come out of plug holes went in them from the sink side in the first place.

The filters are to stop you having to claw food morsels out of the waste with your fingers - or being tempted to push them through where they can get stuck and block the waste.

Don't plumbers u do the u bend to unblock it sometimes?
