Do I have laminate or wood floor

my flooring is really bad and I ve decided it needs to be varnished painted or replaced

I tried to apply a stain but it did not look very good. Pictures attached

Is my floor wood or laminate and is there anything wrong with painting it

I do not want to sand down the floor

Probably laminate- which is an image of wood, stuck onto a base layer
Try looking for easy to identify features and repeats. Most people don't mix the packs that well

It does not look like laminate to me. It has no shiny surface and it feels quite woody

Is there any test I can do to confirm

See if you can lift the bar under the door, and that might let you see the construction of it. Alternatively, find a patch that won't be seen, and try lightly rubbing it with sandpaper. It's possible that it's engineered wood, and has an oiled finish on it, and that would stop the stain taking; if that's the case, it'd need sanding down before it could be stained, or panted.

If it's laminate, you could use a multi surface paint on it, but I'm not sure how long it's wear.
