I using an Ikea Worktop as an office desk surface and I need to cut it down to size and then put one of their edging strips on to the cut part. It says in instructions to use Contact Adhesive.

Can anyone recommend what adhesive is best to use and a good method for applying?

Yup, contact adhesive works well. You can get two types - but you have to request it at the counter to stop the sniffers getting it. One is immediate contact that you spread it on both parts, then carefully line them up and push them together; or you can get a 5 minute type that you apply and push together, but you can then move it around if it's not in the correct place, but you then have to hold it in place whilst if goes off.

Instead of cutting the new piece down, you can fit it as is from the top downwards, and then use a very sharp knife working from the back to score it, and then snap it off in one piece. The you can take a fine file to the edges, and create a 45 degree chamfer to tidy it up.
