I have a MK5 1.4 Astra 54 reg when I started it recently the electronics lamp stayed on ( car with spanner ) I let it run for a few minuets then switched off, when I switched on the ignition again the lamp came on but went off when I restarted the engine, but to be safe I had a diagnostics check done and its showing a fault with the camshaft speed sensor, I am waiting for a replacement sensor but have noticed the petrol consumption has doubled has anyone had this problem

If petrol consumption really has doubled (and I mean actual fuel used, not the mpg-o-meter on the dashboard) then you'd be well advised to stop driving it until you have your spare sensor. If what you say is true about fuel consumption then it is running rich which is bad for bore wash and the health of your catalytic converter.

Yes I am assuming the mpg-o-meter is correct as each division of 6 Litres gives me 60 miles normally, but that dropped to 32 miles, but I wonder if although the lamp is going out when the engine is running it is not monitoring the camshaft speed as it should, and the engine management system is not in control of the fuel injectors, hence the high fuel usage, and your right of course Thanks it stays on the drive until I fit the new part
