Roof done right or wrong??

Anyone know what's causing the pitch change of the eaves row. Seem to be different from the rest of the roof and yet the neighbours seems fine. Is it smaller battens on the neighbors. Or a batten underneath kicking the neighbours bottom row up that he's. needing on his roof. Maybe a smaller batten. Maybe only one of thems been counter battened.

You guys thinking hes not ran out his top and bottom course...not done his perps started tiling so far along from the left...got to the end and hit problem?.

I can't really see to much detail in the pictures.

I don't really know much about roofing but the roofer hasn't finished on the bottom part of the roof just yet as he has to put eaves tray there. I will post more pictures soon as its very foggy at the moment.

It's a amateurish mistake. As the front of one tile rests on the back of another, the first row of tiles has nothing to rest on so it will dip. To avoid this, there needs to be additional batterns or a battern on edge, or over fascia vents to lift the front edge of the first tile up.

The neighbour's does appear to be similar, and as the tiles are bonded, this may be a bit awkward but could be blended in.

There is an argument that its better to have the tiles match on the two properties, and avoid an uneven line of tiles and different distances between the tiles and gutter etc. But it's not right and if it can be altered, and would not look out of place if done so, it should be.

Look new, pretty obvious as they would have been on pallets covered in labeled plastic. A couple of ridge that were laid up there looked not new.
Can you get a better picture of the area by the opening in the scaffold.

No ladder in the front by the opening of the scaffold hence can't get up there to take close shots but I will try.

Their new tiles. Some been scuffed a bit from either transportation or him walking on them etc by the looks of it.

Is he still turning up for work everyday atm...starting to appear that he,s avoiding finishing the ends, eaves etc for some reason. Probably because I m not sure he,s ran his first and last course out to see where it ends and put his perp lines on to begin with. Its now become a harder job to finish. He would have probably been better using a GRP valley to separate one of the neighbors roofs. To make life easier for himself.

I think maybe he can't get the tiles to close at one side now. Someone said their might be a gap between the neighbors. I think you need to get up there with him...let the guy explain to you any queries you,ve got.

The right hand side end cut tiles seem to be a different color. A few of the ridges that are loose are a different color as well.

Did he run out of tiles/ridges?

I think he,s still to finish it tho. They could well just be temporary.

Better to let him finish it off now then see where your at before jumping to conclusions. The tiles are new by the looks of it tho.

Again tho I m a novice compared to most guys on here tbh.

The problem is, he is not communicating with me very well at the moment.before the start of the work he said "I will give you a list of things I am going to do so then you can tick it off once it's done and I am going to treat the roof as its my own house roof".
As the time progressed no list was given even no invoices at all.

he chucked the old tiles and felts and put new battens and felts on and left the felts to rot in heavy snow and wind and didn't turn up for weeks.on Christmas day due to heavy wind the felts on top of the roof torned and rain water was pouring into the new insulations underneath. I had to call him on Christmas day at night to come and sort this out. Which he did and put a few screws to put it back together. You can see some pictures I posted earlier on this post where the ridge in the centre is really wet it's because I was holding the torned felt with hand just to try stopping all the water pouring in.

There were some days in between with good weather but he won't turn up so I became very frustrated with everything. Now even if I call him he doesn't answer his phone.I really don't know where this is all going to maybe I will just wait and see where he ends up and take it from there.

Still have to pay him a £1000.00 which I will hold on.

Yeah looks like he,s not being fair tbh. First thing you need to do is get him to turn up...and have some kind of honest talk with him.

Seems to me he might be struggling with the job or its a little too big for him. He might not do a lot of whole roofs. He even working with someone?

I,d obviously keep a hold of the 1,000 for now. But need to be open with him ask him if he,s struggling with it. Better that than him avoiding turning up and your sitting there with an unfinished roof.

Your in a bit too deep now for much else. At least you,ll know where you stand.

I,d send him a text asking if he,s struggling with it or something like that.

Could be a case he,s hit problems and he,s thinking its not worth my while fixing it for a grand especially when he,s not sure how to fix it...and he could be out there making more money on other jobs. Either way tho...you need to find out where you stand in order to move forward.

Hes not much to do, so keep hold of the £1000.00
There are plenty of possible reasons why he hasn't completed yet . Only he knows.

Fingers crossed he turns up tomorrow!

He did turn up today but only for few moments. Explained to him that those ridge tiles are of different sizes and shapes than the rest and front row of tiles got a dip on them. Here's what he said....
1.I am aware of that and ordered some new ones it will be here between 4/5days.
2.scaffolds coming off on this Monday
3.eaves tray will be installed in front with gutterings and fascias that will push the front into place.
4.there will be also a vent tiles to get some air movement going in the loft.

But looking at these pictures I don't quite understand how is he going to put new ridge tiles in there when it's been mortered already and without any scaffolds??

He seems to have covered the queries. But it's odd why he would drop the scaffold only to do the fascia work (and ridge) off ladders. Yes the platform is a bit high, and it's up to him, but when jobs are difficult or awkward, the risk of quality issues occuring is greater.

Overall though, it's not that bad all things considered.

As you said, Overall things are looking to be OK. He can't do the fascias and gutters because the scaffolds are very much too close to the gutters so there isn't enough room to move things around.

The way he told/explained everything to me today if only he did that from beginning we probably wouldn't have had any issues whatsoever.

Yes having the platform in the correct place to deal with all the work comes from experience.
