Is there really no alternative?

Or no option to make it work properly?

It breaks images which are http:... and not https:..., and it stops animated gifs from working.

What is the point of it, and how does it benefit us?

Well - it's hard to interpret the silence as anything other than these answers:

Is there really no alternative? No.

Or no option to make it work properly? No.

It breaks images which are http:... and not https:..., and it stops animated gifs from working. Indeed.

What is the point of it, and how does it benefit us? There is none, and it doesn't.
