It doesn't work that way I'm afraid; they are both same company, just different owners. British rail was atrocious for it service, delays and strikes, hmm, so's most of the privatised companies. And if they get nationalised, it'll be the same management, the same drivers, and the same unions, except the unions would escelate the strikes way beyond what a private company would allow, as there's no shareholdes to answer to.

The sandwiches were always dry, and the selection was limited, but the fares were lower when it was BR. The staff were all jobsworths, but polite and helful, wereas now they are polite, and unhelful jobsworths.

So as always, yer pays yer money, and take yer choice.

Yes but the Tories will never nationalise anything. The only people who will would be Labour and that would mean Corbyn as prime minister. I'd rather live in a s**t hole than have him in poser. I say that as an ex labour supporter till Blair showed his true colours. Now I don't support any of them but, hopefully, May will take us out that corrupt EU.

heard on the radio that they were taking 120 days to pay there sub contractors

Any one working on carrilion maintenance for government contracts will get paid ?? any one working on private contracts will not ??

All the execs & top management have had there snouts in the trough. The little/small lowly subby gets shafted as per usual

think carrilion used to be Wimpy ??

They were a demerger of Tarmac.

90/120 day invoice to payment is pretty standard for most big firms. 30 days to invoice and payment within 90 days.

In all honesty I'm not surprised they've gone under. They put the blame on bad contracts but I say it's bad management. I've never known a firm like it for wasting time and money on bad management, even at site level. Dread to think what kind of a mess head office has been running with.

Now that I am truly sorry about. Easy to forget there is always a human back story involved. I hope you find alternative work soon.

It seems like Carillion put in tender for government contracts which were below the actual value of the work. So piles of work in the pipeline all priced at a loss....

But they also have paid dividends that have increased every year.....

No it didn't hurt the bankers at all....BUT it cost you 30K and every member of your family, who works. it cost them 30K each as well! Plus compound interest.

Vince Cable was on R2 today, talking about Carillion.
One of the things he said was that the politicians who kept signing these things off were inept.

I thinking it's more set up this way from the start (and will likely, not change). Shaft the little guy (and or taxpayer), and fund those further up the food chain.

Interesting to know how you did your figures. At 65m people in this country, that makes it almost £2tr, but that's government money not ours. They will have to pay interest on the loan (as they've borrowed it) but the actual cost to us can't be calculated until the shares have been sold, then a loss will be worked out, and add in the loan interest, and it may only be about £1200 per person.
