Their Problem or mine? Mondeo ABS light after bearing change

My mondeo went into garage to have the near side front bearing replaced. It's an 06 with 174,000 odd miles so done well. I did both rears last year but the fronts can be problematic so left it to a garage.

First bearing was fitted. Lower wish bone worn so authorised its replacement as well. On test first bearing was loose so replaced. Garage noticed damaged threads on CV joint so replaced it at their own volition as they may have caused it.

Test drive pulsing brakes on light application. Checked all fittings but definitely on the near side front. Garage replaced ABS sensor no more pulsing. However ABS lights go on shortly after code read and indicated no signal from near side front. Garage suggests dodgy connector /cable from sensor to wiring loom. Google search suggest this as well.

They did not charge for the ABS sensor but it needs to go back in to fit the ABS issue. I am thinking that this is their problem as it was fine before they started work on the car. Should be a simple swap from on side to near side of sensor and cable to establish fix and then replace. Happy to let them try and fix but am I right that this should be without charge to me? I would welcome your opinions.

I wpould argue the toss with them although stuff can go wrong of it's own volition. having said that I am not a """"TRADESMAN""""
 
I'm struggling to understand how the first wheel bearing was loose......:eek:
I've only done one of these on the sporty Mondeo (st240 or something?) and the abs sensor was in the bearing....I also had to break out the sensor from the hub.
A new bearing sorted that one.
As for who should pay, I really can't say but you should definitely return for a chat. The car won't get an MOT like it is.

I had major problems with a Mondeo ABS after changing a front wheel bearing. Wheel locking up on its own, ABS light going crazy. Turned out it was a faulty bearing. It was a pattern part. Replaced it with a genuine Ford one and everything was good.

For sure there's got to be Oriental rubbish available - I did one Peugeot 306 bearing that failed after 2000 miles :eek: Bye bye, profit!
Never come across a 'loose' one though - don't know what that's about.

Car back in and now fixed. No warning lights on dash and ABS works. The garages explanation was that the new bearing had been pushed in too far causing the sensor to fail. let's be charitable and suggest that this is their explanation they give that customers may understand. What I think they mean is that they mullered the bearing so much and remember this is the second one that the internal ring of the hub sensor broke so they had to replace the hub to fix it. Oh well it's all fixed and at no charge.
