Can Anyone Identify This Valor Boiler.....please?

My Valor central heating boiler, which came with the 1960's house I bought 5 years ago, decided to "play-up" 10 days ago

What happens is that initially the boiler works perfectly, with the rads getting very hot (a little too hot to my mind as the rads smell as if the paint is burning - which never happened previously). Once the house is warm and the thermostat stops calling for heat, the boiler cuts-off.....which is exactly as it should be, of course

But the boiler does not restart once the rooms cool down and the thermostat is requesting heat. To get the boiler running again, I have to turn the boiler off, and then turn it back on again. Once I've done this, it fires-up and works perfectly again....until the next time it cuts-out

My heating engineer has already attended 6 times during the past 10 days, and has replaced the pump and a few other components - but the boiler remains defective in exactly the same way, and the engineer is struggling to come up with a solution

Any ideas?

Also, as I would like to find a manual for this boiler, could anyone identify the model for me?

This is the most complex boiler ever made...and very very few gas installers have the knowledge to work on it. AFAIR many parts are now obsolete. Replacement might be a better option.

Or ensure that the next RGI is familiar with them

Might be worth asking...

What's the air pump used for?
Where's the air collector ring?
What does Hybrid mean?
What's the servo valve for?

If you dare..at least you'll suss out the chancers.

What parts have been replaced?

you do not need any of that knowledge.ring vaillant.they will talk you through it and tell you most if not all parts are obsolete anyway.

Certainly will rule out the chancers who claim to be heating engineers

There says someone that's clearly not worked on these models...I doubt anyone at Vaillant has seen these they're so old now. IF you could get through to Vaillant you'd be on the phone all day trying to work out how these boilers work. For example even 10 years ago no one new where or what the part above does...but it's critical to correct operating....

worked on several of them actually.but thats irrelevant for the tech helplines...handy but not a deal breaker...does not change the fact parts are obsolete

Despite you identifying the boiler for me, i have been unable to find a manual, so I'm still struggling to understand how to make all but the obvious and very basic adjustments to the boiler. However, things have now moved-on a little . . .

My heating engineer has attended again (7th time) and has somehow (but how?) adjusted the boiler so that the water temperature does not make the rads dangerously hot to-touch. He also managed to get the boiler to "work properly" inasmuchas it will now re-fire when asked to do so by the room stat. However......it will now only run for a few minutes before cutting-out (despite the room stat still calling for heat), hence the room temperature requested by the room stat is never achieved

The engineer is schedulled to attend again (for the 8th time) on Friday, and is now confident that he can now cure the proiblem, having taken advice from both Vaillant and a local Vaillant-aware engineer. But in the meantime: Can anyone tell me what the "adjuster screw" on the pictured control panel actually adjusts? I'm looking for a way to adjust the boiler's cut-off temp, as it seems to me that increasing this slightly "may" allow the boiler to run long enough for the rads to become effective again, but without getting 'dangerously' hot....maybe! Of course if the engineer is successful tomorrow then the problem will be solved - but I'd still like to learn a little more about how this boiler works. If only i could find a manual! Ha ha!

depending on age its a adjustable time delay for boiler coming back on after boiler stat turned in off anything from 1 to 15 mins,but its just a blank on some !
