I have an ongoing insurance funded job to replace the tiles on my kitchen floor. At the back door double doors I have found that the 2x2 battens that sit on a membrane and to which the chipboard floor attaches have rotted ends, I can put my hand down where the skirting used to be and feel that the slab is wet and moisture has bridged onto the battens. Maybe an area a foot or so back from the door is affected. The plasterboard on either side of the door aperture isn’t clever either, looks to butt straight on to exposed stone wall. I stopped the contractor tiling over it as I think that putting weight on the floor could snap the overhang on the batten and cause the chipboard to fall and the tiles to fail. Joiner wants 600 to remove plasterboard each side and floor / battens, spray fungicide, membrane the floor and replace affected battens, relay chipboard, resheet plasterboard and then reattach tilers plywood ready for tiling.
The area is just the aperture before the doors.
Is that price reasonable? Many thanks!!!
