Samsung W/D not draining. Pump replaced and no blockages. How to test

Hi All,

My Samsung WD8704RJA washer dryer has stopped draining with a 5e error code. I have checked all hoses and the pump filter for blockages and have then tried swapping the pump.

I still have the fault and the pump does not run at all and makes no no noise. Both the old and new pumps give about 200-300 Ohm with a multimeter so the old pump seems to be ok. I think it is not receiving power from the controls but don't know where to test.

I have tried testing for voltage at the spade connectors on the pump and there was no voltage at all during a spin cycle. I measured AC volts as the pump is 220-240V AC 50-60Hz and set the meter to log the peak voltage during the cycle but there was nothing at all.

Where should I look next? Will it be the main PCB or are there usually some in-line components to test between the pump and main board first?

Any help or a service manual would be greatly appeciated as the washing is piling up with a 6 week old baby in the house!

Disconnected pressure switch from hose. Gently blew through it and no obvious obstruction. Put it back together and started machine. Pump started straight away as normal. It did about half a wash cycle before it threw the 5e error code again so seems to be related to the pressure switch as the pump hasn’t run at all until now.

Will get a replacement and see if it solves things.

I think it is likely that there is gunge in the pump end of the pipe & blowing down it cleared it temporarily. It's water pressure from the drum into the pump that activates the sensor, the pump does not need to run.

Still waiting on the new pressure switch. Just wanted to make sure I’m on the right track.

How does the pressure switch affect the pump running/not running? Is it that the water pressure switch tells the pcb that the drum is full and needs the pump to run to drain it at specific times during the cycle?

All other stages of the wash seem to work just not the draining parts.

Yes your assumption is correct, the sensor detects the level of the water. But it does seem strange that it goes through a wash cycle. There is a possibility that you have a board fault but if cleaning the pump housing & tube do not cure the fault then the sensor is the cheapest thing to try next.
