Roof done right or wrong??

It's not over just yet.just want to have a few more advice from experts here....

1.Is it OK to have a dry verge kit over the mortar that's already there or it can create condensations and damp problems later on.

2.when installing a dry bonding gutter on my right hand side neighbours and mines should there be any extra layer of felt that goes underneath the gutter.

Roofer is also matching the top tiles on my left side neighbours so it all blend in.

If he hadn't turned up on the dry days, then he'd very likely started another job. The scaffolding may be in the wrong place, or the scaffolders may want more money for him to keep it up a bit longer.

Scaffolds are coming off this week. He said he won't have any problem without it and wants to get the exterior done by this week. We discussed about the money and told him what he's doing now should have been done as standard and agreed to it.
Let's see what he does.

Have things finished yet?.That is a 5 day job at the most for an experienced 2 man team. There are a few problems but I dont want to alarm you overly but have you paid him the balance yet?

Can't believe i am writing this but the reality is ....
No the job is not finished infact it has gone from worse to disastrous. Roofer demands more money for the rest of the job and I refused. Eventually I had no choice but to write a letter to him about my Consumer Rights but he didn't even care.

I was going to take him to court but i think in the process I am going to loose more money. Now I have no choice but to seek someone professional to do the rest of the job within a reasonable price. Its becoming very difficult to find somebody that will do it within a reasonable price.

My house roof was far better than what it is now.

Sorry to hear that, do check all your house, car, life, work, pension for any legal cover. They can help with these situations. Even some provide a help line with just advice.
I'm sure some on here would be able to advise especially on a technical level.
Best of luck getting things sorted.

What is left to do? is scaffold still up?and how much if any is left to pay him? and as above what part of uk?

That's often the case, but can you trust the current guy to finish the job properly, and not then (although unlikely) demand more money. If you decide to continue with him, get the reason for the increase in writing, and get him to state that this won't go up any further. If you can't find someone to finish it cheaper than he's going to, then you may have to bite the bullet, and continue with him.

You can have a chat with CAB to see about taking him to the small claims court for breach of contract, and it won't cost much to issue the summons, but getting the money out of him may not be so easy.

Is it worth trying to knock him down, and point out better you both walk away happy, rather than ongoing arguments.

I tried to talk with him several times but he is not willing to nudge an inch. Basically he wants me to pay him more money on a daily basis for the rest of the work and to fix his own mess.

I don't really trust him anymore to come and redo anything. As for going to court, I already spoke to a CAB adviser and notified the Trading Standard about my situations. What they said was, Taking him to court can win me the case but getting some of the money back won't be easy or not guaranteed.

This work commenced back in November 2017 and after all this misery and money wasted here I am back to square one again. I need a bit of help. I know we have some really good roof experts here, can somebody be willing to come and fix this mess for me!

I think you know that you have to dump this guy then, and bite the bullet on what it takes to finish the job. And whilst you may not be able to get the money out of him after taking him to court, I think you can put a charge on his property, and then you'd get paid when he sells it - investigate that route.

It might be worth starting a new thread with the heading. Roofer required in Hemmel Hemstead.

You claim against him personally, then when you win, you get orders against his assets and even a charge against his house.

You do your checks first to see if he has stuff in his name or any associates are tied to the business. If there are assets, it's not that difficult to get hold of them.

Obviously you don't pay him any outstanding money.

But first, see if the local council (trading standards/ consumer protection dept) has any list of approved contractors. Or ..

Thanks "Woody"
Contacted a few general and trading standard approved roofers and had quotes above £3500.00 to redo everything or to fix the problems.

My only option now is to get an ADR(Alternative Dispute Resolution) to get him to pay back some money for getting someone else redo the job and if he dont agree to that either than eventually claim it in court.I will have had covered all means to resolve it by then and produce a strong case in my favour hopefully.
