Attaching wood (gate) to metal gate?

Hi there,

I have a metal grid-like gate that has a mesh-type face on it....

I'd like to add some wood panelling to this, so it blocks it (can't see through it) and will look a little bit nice (from the inside at least.

Does anyone have some suggestions on how to attach the panels? (I don't want to drill holes in wood and use cable ties - which seems quickest. most obvious).
I can't drill directly to gate as I wouldn't be able to tighten the screws.

Any help is appreciated.

If you drill the frame of the gate, you could use self tapping screws to fit the wood. The holes need to be the correct size.
In a similar way, you could add a wooden rail to the gate with self tappers, and wood screw to that, or sandwich a wooden rail either side of the mesh, screwing to that.

There may be small metal fixings that are designed for this, so the panel hooks over the mesh, and is secured by mounting a couple upside down?

Hi Tiger,

Thanks for the reply - I had considered self-tappers, but didn't want to damage the gate (although I own the property, and I I will always have a wooden gate it shouldn't be a problem).

The idea of hooking on to the mesh is worth me exploring - thank you. Also those clips look good - i'll need to check the mesh though, I think more than 3mm.

Three lengths 3” ish x 3/4- 1” thick. top middle and bottom clamped with clips to vertical bars,
screw uprights to these.

Fox, the house was actually robbed few years ago - everything was stolen..... we learned from that (cameras, alarm system etc).
