I'm having the back of my house insulated and rendered, bell box will have to come off.

I don't know the make and model, it was installed by a Nottinghamshire company called 'cables electrical' they have a couple of shops and a few vans operating in the area. It was fitted around 5 years ago, wired system with lock & unlock keyring and only one keypad upstairs.

Anyway, I can turn off the power supply to the box but I'm sure there will be a back up battery in there. Is that removable?

Hopefully it's as simple as turning power off and pulling that battery out once the alarm cover is off. Or maybe tape over the spring that holds the tamper switch in?

The rendering man says he hates alarms.

Hope those are showing ok, there's a tamper on the control panel, went off when I removed the cover.

The small white box above the control panel says 'cisco' I think that's the sensor for the 'lock/unlock' keyring remotes I have.

Thanks.

Simplest option
Down power whole system and remove bell box
Reconnect bell after rendering and then turn system back on
Or pay callout fee for local company to isolate from system

Yes that's the plan, I'm having someone else do the rendering so I just want to give him as much info as possible on how to shut the alarm up to save his ears.

The tamper switch on the control panel is a spring that's attached to the board and putting the cover back on presses that switch in, then enter the code and it stops the alarm.

So the plan is to either remove the battery inside the bell box or tape over the tamper switch to keep the spring held in while the bell box itself is actually hanging off the wall.

It's a Risco/ eurosec cpx panel , as above remove battery from alarm panel and remove fuse for mains supply , this should make the external bell ring for 20 mins max , now remove the bell box , render and refix bell box power back up and reset time and date all done

Is the backup battery for the bellbox the battery that I pictured above ? I thought it would be inside the external bell box!

If the mains power is off and that battery is removed how can it ring at all ?

If it's been installed correctly there is another battery in the bell box BUT ...it may be dead/ faulty depending on the age ...

Ok thanks.

The plan is to turn off mains power, unclip bell box cover... Alarm triggers, take rest of bell box off the wall and re-attach to stop the tamper switch, enter code to stop the alarm.

I'm nervous cos I won't be there, I should be more trusting of others, this guy only does rendering so he probably deals with alarms all the time.

If your not going to totally down power it ( mains and battery ) then don't even bother turning the mains off as you are not gaining anything ! Let's hope you don't come home to find it rendered around the bell box , I've replaced a fair few bellboxes that have been !

Ok, the plan version 2.

I'll remove the battery from the control panel tonight.

Tell the wife to power off at the mains before box comes off, box will come off and tamper will trigger alarm if there's another battery in the bell box, I'll tell render man to clip box back together after taking it off the wall to press in the tamper switch, wife will input code to turn alarm off.

Sound better?

Not if the bellbox has a back tamper which require it to be fixed to the wall !
Again ....power down system totally ....the bell may ring outside for 15/20 mins
It is now dead ....do the work , refix bellbox power back up ....

Rendering is now complete, however I can't set the alarm system. The keypad says 'bell box tamper' when I try to set.

Everything is back in place so is this just one of those small springs inside the box that keep the tamper switch pressed in ? I hope the spring isn't lost.
