Laying Flooring

Hi;

I have built a workshop in my garden and now need to sort out the floor.
There is a concrete floor laid on a DPM, sand and hardcore.

I am now considering laying down wickes P5 T&G flooring and then maybe lino or something else on top.
1. Do I need to put anything underneath it?
2. Could I put a thin layer of carpet underlay under the T&G to add some insulation?
3. Does it need gluing to the floor? If so what with?

maybe a bit late as the floor concrete is down but can you add more insulation?
I doubt carpet will do much but when I built a recording studio in a garage we used RW1 rockwool then glued 8x2 chipboard together over the top to make a one piece floating floor. With carpet, it is very warm

depends what you want to do in the workshop as insulation, even under wood, will suffer if you are banging stuff around on the floor

It'll depend on the height that you've got under the door as it opens. You could put down 25mm of cellotex, then glue P5 T&G chipboard floor, and as long as you don't have any heavy stuff in there, then it should be fine, as the load will spread. If you're using 22mm P5, and adding lino, then you'd need a 50mm gap under the door.

Just resurrecting this thread now that I am in a position to fit the floor.
Have found some T&G Green Chipboard Flooring in Wickes. I have laid a concrete floor with a Damp Proof Membrane under it. To fit this flooring I was planning on butting down battens to allow for any uneven surfaces. You mention using 25mm Celotex will it matter if there is a cavity e.g. 25mm Celotex with 38mm x 50mm battens (laid with the 38mm as the depth).

How would you recommend fitting the battens to the floor? Caulk Gun Glue such as Sticks Like Sh*t or No More Nails? or should I screw it to the floor?
I was planning on laying out the battens and screwing them together to make a frame on the floor. Then screw the T&G to the frame.

This will be a workshop with a workbench that will sit on the floor, Compressor, welder, vice, bench drill etc. Will this kind of floor be OK?

How deep is the membrane, as that'll restrict how deep you can screw nails into the floor. If the floors dusty, then glue may not stick, but you could apply some acrylic primer to the floor first, or you could use brick stabiliser instead, and then glue them. Set the cellotex to the top of the battens, and then put the chipboard down, ideally 22mm rather than 18 though. Being heavier, it'll make the floor more stable, as well as stronger. Making a frame is a good idea, and it'll show up any areas that need spacers/more glue.

Membrane is about 50mm down - ended up laying two layers of concrete 2 x 50mm concrete and forgot to put the membrane under the first layer

So my insulation needs to be level with the top of my battens - no void.
Do you mean 22mm chipboard?

Yes, 22mm chipboard, and the insulation straight underneath it. If the membranes 50mm down, then make sure you only use 40mm rawlplugs, and make sure the screws only go in that far.

OK so I tried to get this going some weeks ago but could not get any Celotex (From Wickes) they said it was being discontinued in favour of Kingspan. Now Kingspan is still unavailable. What alternatives could I use? - preferably from Wickes / Travis Perkins. Needs to be 25mm though.

Just about to lay the battens. I have a DPC plastic sheet under the concrete. Do I need to lay more plastic on top under the battens?
