The carrot and spud one, assuming its not a wind up, sounds intersting - my header tank has 2 of those lugs - still there we go.
My tip is that I have used one of those wine bottle savers for 22mm pipe. Was given a set by an aging relative as a present, only to find by sorry experiment that at the end of the evening there is never actually any wine left in the bottle to be saved. So they sat on the widow sill gathering dust, until one day they found a role ....., a while ago now, in an "oh no moment" of the kind when I could not find the mole grips to flatten the pipe with, but might well have if I could, I found that these, not only were in reach, and looked the right size, but actually worked rather well as emergency 22mm heating pipe bungs.
One other larder raiding tip from the wild side. Soldering a cold water pipe with a slight drip from the isolator? Stuff it with bread, then solder it. The bread mops up the water that otherwise makes the soldering impossible. After finishing, play the flame over the breaded section to toast it, and then turn the water back on a little to wash out the bits of toast from the far end of the pipe..
Probably not the best technique, but one to get you out of a corner maybe.
Disclaimer, it works for me, but I am not pretending that is the professional plumber method - but then I don't think the carrot proposer is saying that either (well I hope not). Just saw the carrot method, and thought the wine plugs and bread trick might be worth sharing.
