Wasps have eaten away at one of my rafters to make a nest.

Is the damage significant enough to need to do anything about apart from blocking access routes etc?

dont do anything else after blocking access.theres no need. def dont go spraying chemicals.
is that a shed roof?

Thanks, no it's a loft so that rafters needs to support the roof at that point, I take it that doesn't change anything?

You better tell the various supermarkets and hardware stores that. They sell all sorts of "chemicals" to kill wasps. Oh yeah they do work quite well.

thers no significant damage to the rafter.plus i think its a hip jack rafter. jacks support less weight than common rafters.

is that not just a knot? looking at the photos, absolutely nothing to worry about, as someone has said, it's a jack rafter, it's short & strong.

get rid of the nest and try to seal up where they're getting in.

Mind not to block up all the ventilation

That's just a knot in the wood. Wasps do burrow through masonry to get to places, but it'd be odd for them to gnaw at timber like that and settle in that position.
